Laja K. Thompson
LKT Legal, LLC was founded by Laja K. Thompson. Laja (pronounced “ledge-uh”) was born in New York City but grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. As a child, she never considered a career in law, but that changed when she went to college. During her junior year, she spent a semester in Washington D.C. interning for her U.S. Senator. That semester opened her eyes to the wide range of careers available in the legal field and to the importance of the rule of law. After graduating from Scripps College in Claremont, California, Laja attended the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver. There, she was determined to start a career in international law but a random opportunity to work in a student-run legal clinic for the disadvantaged changed everything. It was there that she found her passion for being in the courtroom.
Before opening LKT Legal, LLC here in Utah, Laja had a private practice in Arizona and Colorado representing adults and juveniles in criminal, juvenile, civil and appellate matters. She also served as a prosecutor in Arizona and Colorado, handling major crimes in the family violence unit and cases involving abused and neglected children.
Laja is licensed to practice law in Colorado, Arizona, California and Utah and is a nationally ranked attorney with the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys. Though family law matters are often best resolved by the parties sometimes it is necessary to appear before a Judge or Commissioner. As an experienced litigator, with more than 10 years under her belt as a prosecuting attorney, Laja never shies away from a courtroom battle if needed.
When not fighting for her clients, Laja enjoys spending time with Paul, her husband of 30 years, their two children, and dog, Lola and her wonderful family and friends. She also enjoys traveling, a good book and spending time outdoors.
Shelley L. Patrick
Shelley has worked in family law for the past 3 years. Prior to that, she worked for a real estate law firm. She received her Certificate in Paralegal Studies from National Paralegal College in 2022. Before working in the legal field, Shelley held a variety of jobs, one of which was as a Customer Service Manager. It is that position that allowed her to develop vital skills such as listening, having empathy, problem-solving and effective communication. Shelley truly enjoys getting to know our clients and working along side of them to help them understand the process. LKT Legal clients routinely comment on Shelley's accessibility. Shelley recognizes the stress these cases can have on a client and the importance of keeping LKT Legal clients up to date.
When Shelley is not working, she enjoys spending time with her 3 children, and her dog. She also travels frequently to the Bear Lake Valley, Idaho where she was raised.
